Who We Are and What We Do

InTouch Prison Ministry is a referral ministry for released prison inmates. We have prayed and worked hard to find the right kind of help (ministries) for our clients. We pray for faith-based ministries to answer our call for help.

GOD is answering our prayers.

About 85 percent of those incarcerated nationwide are there directly or indirectly as a result of substance abuse. My experience working with this population of inmates has been that they are at hight risk of recidivism when released. Most of them have burned all bridges prior to incarceration with the exception of one or two drug connections.
Many have never held a steady job. Some cannot even fill out an application for the most menial jobs. The system releases them with gate money, the clothes on their backs, and possibly a small sack of belongings. I have found that, in most cases, no matter what positive changes have occurred during icarceration, no matter how strong their faith may be upon release - within 30 to 90 days, they are right back in the sewer they came out of. No matter how strongly resolved they may be on the day of release, most are forced back into the old lifestyle under the deception "just this once until I get back on my feet".
At that point, they are unemployable, homeless, hungry, and soon penniless. Simply stated: If an ex-con knows he can make one phone call and within hours have a pocket full of $100 bills, he will not remain lacking very long.
Crime and the God kind of faith are age-old enemies. A fast growing body of empirical data shows the power of faith to target antisocial values and to curb recidivism. The statistics are clear that the faith factor does work. Offenders can change - even in dire situations. The problem is that the offender doesn't know where to find the help, and he will not ask for help until it is too late.
InTouch Prison Ministry is working to put together a referral network system in every major city in Texas. Currently we network in Houston, Austin, Bryan, Beaumont, Abilene, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Waco. We have more work to do in the Dallas and San Antonio areas, but I know that with God's help, it will get done.
InTouch Prison Ministry falls under the umbrella of Pecan Valley Prison Ministries, a Brown County, Texas, ministry with by-laws and a 501-3C. "PVPM" holds InTouch Prison Ministry accountable in all areas of its ministry. We invite all to partner with us in this mighty work of God. We need your prayerful financial support for this much-neglected mission field. One in six youths will end up in prison. One out of 15 males in America is under state or federal supervision. Approximately 1,400,000 inmates are in United States prisons today. That number is expected to double in the near future. The current recidivism rate is between 48 percent and 57 percent depending on whose figures you use.
We ask you to prayerfully consider what God would have you do in joining us in this mission. Together, by God's grace, we can link that client with the right ministry and change his life forever.
